HKT education in collaboration with James Law Cybertecture launches Hong Kong Education MakerSpace Curator Alliance

HKT (SEHK: 6823) – HONG KONG, June 5, 2017 – HKT education has teamed up with a group of remarkable architectural designers to form Hong Kong Education MakerSpace Curator Alliance (EMCA), offering local schools free consultation and proposal to construct their own future classroom MakerSpace.

MakerSpace is a collaborative learning room that students can gather to explore, brainstorm and DIY as well as share their knowledge and learning resources. EMCA would like to take this opportunity to contribute to the Hong Kong education sector and nurture more students to become the next generation of scientists, engineers and innovators.

To transform traditional classrooms into a student-centric learning setting for the 21st Century education, HKT education will provide one-stop solution integrating electronic learning technology (including eLearning, STEM* , Maker Education tools), pedagogy, interior design with professional consultation service that align with the schools’ education needs and their teaching objectives. Also, relevant activity-based room designs will bring greater flexibility to teachers and students in terms of in-class activities.

Through the EMCA, 10 schools will be chosen to participate in this year’s campaign, in which tailor-made MakerSpace design proposals with free consultancy will be offered by the architectural designers. Mr. James Law, an award-winning local architect, is invited as the convener of the EMCA to unite passionate young architectural designers to be part of the campaign. Participating schools can implement their Maker Education and construct their own MakerSpace through affordable investment, and the schools will be facilitated with the best suitable pedagogy.

In addition, EMCA will organize seminars, sharing sessions and education workshops to advocate the concept of Makers and 21st Century learning.

Mr. Ringo Ng, Managing Director of HKT’s Consumer Group and HKT education, said, “HKT education is dedicated to providing one-stop eLearning solution to Hong Kong’s education sector. Following the deployment of STEM one-stop education service, it is our belief that the introduction of MakerSpace will further enhance learning and teaching effectiveness for both students and teachers.”

Starting today, application forms will be distributed to all Hong Kong local primary and secondary schools. Schools are required to submit their application forms together with an elaboration of their needs and aspirations for MakerSpace. EMCA committee will select eligible schools for participation.
